What is Service Design & Design Thinking?

 

Kat SiedLecki

 

Kat is a Design Thinking and Service Design Lead within Booz Allen Hamilton’s Strategic Innovation Group (SIG). She is a designer and learning strategist with over 12 years of consulting experience with the U.S. military and other federal agencies, predominately the Department of Defense (DoD), on a variety of wicked problems and talent development needs. Kat is passionate about combining her expertise in learning with the creativity of design thinking. She has worked on a variety of complex topics to include veteran unemployment, sexual assault prevention, human trafficking, suicide prevention, employee engagement, and many others. For the past two years, Kat’s work has focused on improving patient engagement in the military healthcare system.

Liz Kelley

 

Liz is a creative and analytical thinker who mines the ephemera of daily life for rich cultural insights that shape the design of new products, services and experiences. With a decade of experience conducting ethnography and her formal training in anthropological theory and methods, she is able to translate big concepts into real world solutions that meet both the unmet needs of individuals and the business objectives of clients in industries including healthcare, energy, tech, financial services, CPG, and retail. Liz has previously worked in the non-profit and publishing industries, and currently teaches at American University. She holds a PhD in cultural and linguistic anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Karen Hold

 

Karen is a Design Strategist creating value at the intersection of neuroscience, visualization, storytelling and the Experience Economy. Inspired by her work experiences, she founded her own small business, a publishing company, and built sales through innovative marketing partnerships with Forbes and BusinessWeek magazines. She helps her clients innovate and adapt to a rapidly changing competitive landscape within complex spaces. Karen uses a practical approach to everyday innovation and employ best practices from the design toolkits of IDEO, Stanford dSchool, Pine & Gilmore, The Grove, Nancy Duarte, Gamestorming and Design Thinkers Academy. She works with clients in various industries including education, advisory services, government, healthcare, financial services, telecommunications, entertainment and the arts.

Kaye Evans-Lutterodt

 

Kaye has an MBA, with and MA in design strategy, and more than eight years of creative and management experience in multiple industries including a leading global content distribution network, technology startup, health care, service design and business innovation consultancy. Applies human-centered design methodologies to improve customer experience.

Valerio Zanini

 

Valerio loves to build new products and services that help customers solve their needs and live happier lives. With many years of experience in digital product innovation at Capital One, Cisco, and a few other companies in between, he always starts by connecting with the customers' needs and aspirations. His passion is for building working prototypes and iterate on these with customer input until the best solution is found. An entrepreneur at heart, he is passionate about developing teams and creating digital products that customers love.

Yvonne Tran

 

Yvonne asks a lot of questions and that has brought her into being a design strategist and storyteller where reframing problems becomes second nature. She has a history of working in social impact organizations and uses service design as a core part of prioritizing people at the center of problem solving. She has previously worked in web development for B Corp companies, at San Francisco’s Mayor Office of Civic Innovation, and helped entrepreneurs and businesses drive innovation through design strategy.

Colette Brown

 

Colette has practiced human-centered design strategy and design management in the fields of architecture, UX, and digital product management. As a design manager, she focuses on boosting the creativity and strategic alignment of multidisciplinary teams, by attending to their physical and managerial environment, facilitating agile and design thinking processes, and providing mentoring and coaching. She is currently studying organizational change leadership at Georgetown to extend her design management toolkit. Colette’s go-to medium is asking questions, and her most exotic hobby is rowing, Venetian style. She is looking forward to working with DC Service Jammers!

Peter Khanahmadi

 

Peter is a Sr. Fellow for Service Design at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). He’s infusing Service Design methods and techniques to enhance cross-channel experiences for financially harmed consumers submitting complaints. Prior to joining CFPB he led the Service Design capability at Booz Allen Hamilton helping clients from health, finance, and defense transform their organization. When he’s not creating great user experiences, he likes to play golf, cook, and edit videos in hopes one day he’ll strike it rich as a filmmaker.

Elise Roy

 

Elise is a Design Strategist who takes a unique approach on Human Centered Design by looking to people with disabilities to uncover hidden needs and craft more effective solutions. She has an unquenchable appetite for learning, having previously worked in the legal, architectural salvage, international development, and marketing realms which is balanced only by her obsession with understanding the various forces that influence people’s actions, inactions and reactions. Her agency, Elise Roy, LLC works with a variety of clients including tech, policy, and international development organizations. She is an avid nerf slingshot fan and soccer obsesser who gets many of her ideas from the 2-5 year old soccer stars that she coaches. Megan Hamilton

 

Megan Hamilton is a design strategist on the Card Design team at Capital One. With a background in engineering and art, and an MS in Human-Computer Interaction from Georgia Tech, she is passionate about understanding and solving problems at the seams of people, money and technology.
